Active oxygen (H2O2), although very little known in Quebec, is a very powerful oxidant, it plays its role as an algaecide very well. It works by decomposing into water and oxygen. However, it does not disinfect and must be combined with a disinfectant, such as a copper-silver ionization system such as Clearblue. It comes in the form of granules or liquid and has no side effects like chlorine or bromine treatment when they are poorly dosed. It can be compatible with all types of treatment, its sensitivity to pH and water temperature is very important, so it is advisable to test your water carefully before each use. In hot water its effectiveness is reduced, so it is not suitable for spas.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to obtain active oxygen from pool retailers (except in the form of shock treatment). However, this product would benefit from being better known since it is the most environmentally friendly oxidant on the market, especially compared to traditional products such as chlorine or bromine.
